Police are questioning a nanny employed by Nigerian musician Davido following the death of his three-year-old son on Halloween.

The unnamed nanny was taken in for questioning along with seven other domestic workers of the artist, six of whom have since been released, police told CNN.

Ifeanyi Adeleke, who celebrated his third birthday last month, is believed to have drowned in the pool at the star’s home in the posh Lagos district of Banana Island.

Davido and his fiancee Chioma Rowland, a chef and influencer also known as Chef Chi, were not at home when the tragedy happened, police said.

Lagos police spokesman Benjamin Hundeyin told CNN: “Eight members of his household staff were taken in for questioning, while the nanny and one other are still being questioned.” After our hearings, six people were allowed to leave as they have no direct connection to the incident.”

Although still unconfirmed, the child appears to have drowned, according to the police. Hundeyin said: “It seems to be drowning but we need to carry out our investigation to make sure.”

Officers have not yet reviewed CCTV footage from the scene, Hundeyin told CNN.

“When we find out, we will review them,” he said. “For now, we haven’t. The research is systematic – step by step.”

Hundeyin added that the police “have been in contact with his parents since day one”.

Davido, born David Adeleke, is one of Africa’s most prominent artists and has enjoyed massive career success since the release of his first single, ‘Back When’ in 2011.

His third studio album, “A Good Time,” was released in 2019 and spent 21 weeks on Billboard’s General R&B/Hip-Hop chart.

He is known for his songs “Dami Duro” and “Fall” and is the most followed African artist on Instagram.

In October, the Afrobeats star, who also has two daughters with other women, posted a photo of his young son on social media with a birthday message.

He wrote: “I pray with all my heart that God will grant you perfect health and pure happiness for as long as humanly possible. You will be greater than me, happy birthday son @davidifeanyiadeleke !!! #BIG3″

The Instagram account in the boy’s name appears to have been removed.

Rowland had posted a similar photo on the youngster’s birthday, with the message: ‘Happy birthday love of my life. Mom loves you so much, God bless you always for me. God has been so faithful to us and I am so grateful to be called your mom. May you be greater than your parents in Jesus name, amen. Love you twin! #big3.”

Tributes have been paid to the couple recently on social media.

Adegboyega Oyetola, Governor of Osun State where Davido is from, tweeted: “Sad to hear of the unfortunate passing of Ifeanyi, son of music star, David Adeleke popularly known as @davido. On behalf of my family and the people of Osun, I sympathize with Davido over this shocking incident.”

Davido’s representatives did not respond to CNN’s request for comment.
