Cesc Fabregas reacts to Gerard Pique being sent off in his last game for Barcelona

Former Barcelona star Cesc Fabregas reacted furiously to the sending off of former team-mate Gerard Pique in the final game of his professional career on Tuesday 8 November.

Barcelona traveled to Osasuna in their last La Liga match before the World Cup. Barcelona had a bit of a mess in the first half, scoring a goal and Robert Lewandowski sent off for a foul. Playing with 10 men, Xavi rallied in the second half and eventually secured a 2-1 victory. Pedri and Raphinha scored twice in the second half to propel Catalonia to victory.

Pique started on the bench in the last game of his career. Displeased with Gil Monzana’s officiating, Pique confronted the referee at half-time and was shown a red card for his displeasure. Fabregas, one of Pique’s childhood friends, saw the funny side of the whole ordeal and got involved. Twitter to share their thoughts.

The former Spain international responded with four “πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚” (laughing emojis), confirming that he found Pique’s unique pass rather amusing.

Fabregas and Pique both enrolled in Barcelona’s La Masia academy at the age of 10. Ray together, among other honors.

They also won the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 together for Spain.

Hours after Barcelona no. 3 Pique announced his retirement from football, Fabregas took to Instagram to write a heartfelt message.

He posted eight important pictures with the centre-back, with the following caption:

“Dear @3gerardpique, we have 1 million photos together, but this first one is the first one that I feel the most and I want to repeat at this moment, give you a hug to thank you, thank you for accompanying me in this very special journey

“Our story began 26 years ago now at the BarΓ§a school, a practice game where you already had the legendary number 3 and where you excelled above all others. The rest is history. A story full of joy and some disappointments, but above all love and respect that cannot be explained in words. What we have experienced in these 26 years is indescribable luck and privilege.”

He continued:

“I will not be able to be at Camp Nou for your last game, but do not doubt for a moment that my heart will be there and that my eyes will not take their eyes off the television.” As a football player with little to say, a guy with a level of competition that I have seen little in my life, your career speaks for itself.

“Thank you for always treating me special and growing up with me. Now remember one thing, the best is yet to come and as you say at the end of your video, we are waiting for you to return one day to your beloved BarΓ§a. I love you friend.”

Fabregas and Pique played 149 games together for club and country but did not score together.
