70-year-old lifts 13 million pounds in one month; hopes to inspire others – WISH-TV | Indianapolis News | Indiana weather

FISHERS, Ind. (WISH) – When he was 70, Eric Zalas wanted to become a stronger version of himself.

“I set a challenge for myself. I lifted over 13 million pounds in one month,” said Zalas. “I’d say last week I made around £290,000. Now I would say that I have reduced it and probably every month I will do 600,000 [to] 700,000 pounds.”

He has trained at LifeTime Fitness in Fishers for the past five years.

“My father, when he was 93, was sitting in his chair one day watching TV and he couldn’t get up. It has been a motivation for me,” he explained. “I don’t want that to happen so I want to get strong and maintain that strength.”

To maintain his lifestyle, he goes to the gym five times a week.

“When I get on the treadmill, I like to walk it at about 5.3 miles per hour. To pass the time I like to listen to old retro music. Sometimes disco music,” he said. “Otherwise I’ll watch documentaries.”

Zalas called himself competitive.

Originally aiming to raise £20m, he contracted COVID-19 and had to adjust to lower numbers.

Now he hopes to inspire others to take control of their health.

“If I can do it, you can,” Zalas said.
