Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is in mid-season.

While some people around the NFL world still aren’t sold on him, others are calling him one of the best quarterbacks in football.

Former professional bowler Robert Griffin III fits into another category.

Griffin believes Tagovailoa is among the top five running backs in football, and he explained why on Tuesday.

Griffin’s take certainly carries some weight, as he spent seven seasons as an NFL quarterback.

Tagovailoa, meanwhile, is in his third year in the NFL, and with the way he’s playing this season, he looks set to have a long and successful career.

Statement period

A few months ago, many NFL fans were ready to write off Tagovailoa.

It’s safe to say he’s made these people look silly this season.

Through eight games, the 24-year-old has completed 71.0 percent of his passes for 2,265 yards, thrown 18 touchdowns and just three interceptions.

Tagovailoa leads the league in several key categories, including quarterback rating (118.4) and QBR (82.6).

Moreover, the Dolphins win when he plays, as the team is:

  • 7-0 in games he starts and finishes
  • 0-3 in all other games

In his last four games, Tagovailoa has thrown for 1,230 yards, 10 touchdowns and no interceptions, and the Dolphins are 4-0.

Miami badly needed that four-game winning streak as it fell to .500 at 3-3 before the streak began.

As of now, the Dolphins are 7-3.

They lead the AFC East, and Tagovailoa is perhaps the biggest reason for that.
