Kelly Rowland Doubles Down on Chris Brown’s Defense, ‘Everybody Got Grace, Period’

Kelly Rowland is doubling down and announcing that Chris Brown deserves forgiveness for his past mistakes.

on monday, TMZ caught up with Kelly in West Hollywood, California and asked about her experience at the 2022 American Music Awards (AMAs). Specifically, the interviewer was interested in finding out more about Kelly’s support for Chris, who won the contest Favorite Male R&B Artist category despite his Michael Jackson tribute being cancelled.

While accepting the award on Breezy’s behalf, Kelly heaped praise on the “Ayo” singer after bringing the disgruntled crowd under control.

“I want to say Chris, thank you so much for making great R&B music and I want to thank him for being an amazing performer. I take this award [and] bring it to you. I love you. Congratulations and congratulations to all the nominees in this category.”

Twitter had mixed reactions to Kelly portraying Chris Love

After Kelly publicly sided with Breezy at the AMAs, people quickly began sharing their thoughts on the matter. Fans have divided their support for Breezy since the 2009 incident when Chris Brown physically assaulted his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, sending shockwaves through social media. While many were outraged, some supported the “Kisses Down Low” singer’s stance.

Kelly thinks Breezy deserves a second chance

Now Kelly is clarifying her comments about Chris, directly stating that he, like everyone else, deserves grace.

The artist began by saying that people need to be more grateful and less critical.

“I believe grace is very real and we all need a dose of it. And before we point fingers at anyone, we should realize how grateful we are for every moment we get. Even for our own things that we own.”

She further explained that humans will make mistakes and should be allowed to grow and improve. Kelly also bluntly said, “Everybody deserves grace, period.”

“I just think it’s important to be human, we’re human. We all need to forgive whatever we might be doing, whatever we might be thinking. We all fall short in some way and grace is real. We are human beings and everyone deserves grace, period.”

Rihanna previously revealed that she forgives Chris Brown

While we’re on the subject, we should note that Rihanna herself has expressed forgiveness for Chris’ assault on her in 2009.

In the 2020 episode of Supersoul Oprah Podcast, Oprah Winfrey revealed a 2012 interview between her and the “Lift Me Up” singer.

Rihanna talked about her relationship with Chris in a sit down. At the time, she said they were “very close friends” who still had love for each other.

“We’ve been working on our friendship again.” Now we are very, very close friends. We have built trust again…We love each other and probably always will. And that’s not something we’re going to change. It’s not something you can shut down, if you’ve ever been in love.”

She continued, noting that she forgave Breezy because she “still cares about him” and wanted to move on with her life.

“I truly love him. So the bottom line for me is that he is at peace…I thought I hated Chris and realized it was love that was tainted. It looked like hate because it was ugly, angry, it was swollen, it was polluted. And I realized that I had to forgive him because I still loved him. And as soon as I let it go, I started living again.”

Do you think people should extend grace to Chris Brown? Also, how do you feel about Kelly Rowland going out of her way to stand by him?
